Wymeswold’s beloved Duck Races are returning for another round of quacking fun this May. Alongside the main event, the 5-mile Wymeswold Waddle running race and the Duckling Dash for younger participants will take place in the morning, ensuring a fantastic day out for the entire family.
Race Schedule and Details
The day kicks off with the five-mile Wymeswold Waddle road race at 10.30am. Narrow Lane will be closed to traffic as runners tackle the undulating out-and-back course to Six Hills. This race is licensed by UK Athletics and is open to runners aged 15 and over. Following the Waddle, the family-friendly Ducking Dash starts at 11.30am, open to juniors under 15.
The Duck Races themselves begin at 12.30pm, as Wymeswold’s team of racing ducks compete on the River Mantle. There will be four betting races where visitors can win money by correctly backing the winning duck in each race.
New for 2026: World Cup Race
This year introduces a themed 2026 World Cup race, featuring 46 ducks with flags representing each nation participating in the World Cup. The ticket holder for the winning duck will receive two Ragdale Hall Spa vouchers.
Additional highlights include the Wymeswold Pre-School Puddleduck Regatta and the annual challenge between local businesses. Children can enjoy the ‘Tough Ducker’ obstacle courses tailored for different age groups.
Entertainment and Attractions
Live music from Josh Kemp, interactive drumming sessions with Bloco Transcultural, information stands, a BBQ, and funfair rides will also be available. All profits from the Duck Races and Waddle are distributed to local charities and voluntary groups. Admission is free.
Duck Race organiser Richard Bailey commented: “The Waddle and Duck Races is a great day out for all the family, and every year it’s a pleasure to see so many smiling faces. The races, Tough Ducker, live music, and drummers mean there’s something for everyone. It helps bring the village together and raises valuable funds for local good causes.”
Wymeswold’s Duck Races and Waddle take place on Sunday, May 3, at Brook Street, Wymeswold, from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
