Hundreds of year six pupils from across Rossendale celebrated the end of their primary school journey by getting covered in brightly coloured powder paint at the annual Rossendale School Sports Partnership Colour Run. The popular event, held at Marl Pits in Rawtenstall, saw excited children from 14 different schools tackle a special course while being showered with biodegradable paint.
Event Highlights and Participation
Helpful sports leaders from The Valley Leadership Academy made the lively event possible by enthusiastically throwing the biodegradable paint at the passing runners. Before the messy run officially started, the young people enjoyed a lively party atmosphere by dancing and singing along to classic pop songs.
Beth, a pupil from Britannia Primary School, said: "I have never done a colour run before and I am excited." The event, which has become a cherished tradition, brought together students, teachers, and families for a day of fun and celebration.
Overcoming Challenges
Even physical injuries could not stop the fun. Eleven-year-old Ella from St Anne's School managed to complete the course with her broken foot while being supported by her friend Sienna. The determination and camaraderie among the pupils were evident as they supported each other through the colourful chaos.
Mr Rush, sports coach at St Paul's CE School, added: "Today is all about having fun, smiling and laughing and celebrating Year 6." His words captured the spirit of the event, which focused on joy and achievement rather than competition.
Family and Community Involvement
Lots of proud parents attended the sports ground to watch the action, with some enthusiastic adults even deciding to join in the colourful chaos alongside their children. One prepared grandmother invested in a white boiler suit to protect her clothes after her husband was reluctant to let her back into the family car following last year's messy event. Parents Amanda and Joanne were among those who embraced the fun, getting covered in paint themselves.
Celebration and Rewards
Everyone who took part in the messy celebration was finally rewarded with a delicious treat from Valley Ices at the finish line. The ice cream provided a sweet end to a day filled with laughter, colour, and memories. The event, which took place in Bacup, Rawtenstall, and Haslingden, highlighted the strong community spirit and the importance of marking milestones in children's lives.
