Major Sky TV Channel Shake-Up: Five Channels Axed, Four Relocated This Week

Sky TV customers are bracing for a substantial broadcasting overhaul this week, with five channels set to disappear from the platform and four others moving to new positions. This significant reshuffle aims to streamline the viewing experience, but it means subscribers must bid farewell to several familiar channels.

Channel Closures and Replacements

Sky Showcase (channel 106 – 107 in the Republic of Ireland) and Sky Max (109 – 110 in ROI and Wales) will both close, making way for the return of Sky One on channel 106. According to Sky, this consolidation brings entertainment content together in one unified destination, simplifying access for viewers.

Additionally, Sky Nature ROI SD (145) is being shut down and replaced by the UK-wide service. In further changes, Wild Worlds will be scrapped and rebranded as GhostbustersHD, while Sky Cult Classics (Satellite 302 – Sky Glass/Stream 302) will be removed and substituted with HorrorHitsHD.

Channel Relocations

Alongside the five closures, four channels are shifting positions on the electronic programme guide. Sky Sci-Fi (152) will move to channel 145 this week. Sky Comedy (112 – 113 in ROI and Wales) relocates to 109 – 110 in ROI and Wales, and Sky Arts (114 – 115 in ROI and Wales) transitions to 112 – 113 in ROI and Wales. Finally, Sky Sci-Fi (116 – 117 in ROI and Wales) shifts to 114 – 115 in ROI and Wales.

Official Statement from Sky

Carli Kerr, Managing Director of Sky TV & NOW, explained the rationale behind these changes: "Our goal is to make it easier than ever for Sky TV customers to find and enjoy the shows they love. Building on the iconic heritage of Sky One, the channel will be a one-of-a-kind destination that’s big, bold and bursting with energy, bringing together brand-new Sky Originals like The Dyers’ Caravan Park, returning favourites such as Rob & Romesh Vs., and serving as the home of the highly anticipated Saturday Night Live UK."

Sky One will now join Sky’s family of channels, which includes Sky Atlantic, Sky Comedy, Sky Witness, Sky Crime, Sky Nature, and Sky Documentaries, offering a comprehensive range of entertainment options.

This restructuring reflects Sky's ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and adapt to evolving viewer preferences, though it may require customers to adjust their channel-surfing habits in the short term.
