Birmingham's iconic Floozie in the Jacuzzi is back up and running after a temporary shutdown. The future of the Victoria Square fountain has been clarified as Birmingham City Council issued an update on its latest switch-on.
Maintenance Issues Resolved
The fountain was temporarily out of service due to maintenance issues and water-quality management. Birmingham City Council appointed an alternative specialist contractor, the original designer and installer of the fountain, to address the problems.
Engineers diagnosed and repaired the fault before the fountain was switched back on earlier this year. Now operational, the council has stated it will "continue to ensure it is appropriately maintained moving forward."
Council Statement
A city council spokeswoman told BirminghamLive: "The Victoria Square fountain was temporarily out of operation due to issues identified with its maintenance and water quality management under a previous contractor. These issues ultimately became apparent in October 2025 when the fountain’s main control panel failed and could not be repaired by the contractor in place at the time. As a result, the Council appointed an alternative specialist contractor – who were the original designer and installer of the fountain – to diagnose and repair the fault. Following completion of this work, the fountain was out of action for approximately three months and was successfully brought back into operation on 14 January 2026. We’re pleased to see the fountain back up and running and will continue to ensure it is appropriately maintained moving forward."
About the Fountain
The central water feature, also called 'The River', was designed by sculptor Dhruva Mistry. It was part of the revamped Victoria Square after Princess Diana opened it in the early 1990s.
