Historic West Midlands Stately Home Announces 2026 Reopening
A cherished historic property in the West Midlands is preparing to welcome visitors once again this February, marking the beginning of its 2026 season. Harvington Hall, a picturesque Elizabethan moated manor located in north Worcestershire, will officially reopen to the public on Saturday, February 14th.
A Unique Elizabethan Gem in the Countryside
Nestled deep in the Worcestershire countryside between Kidderminster and Bromsgrove, Harvington Hall is conveniently situated just a short drive from major urban centres including Birmingham, Stourbridge, and Dudley. This Grade I listed building stands as a remarkable example of 16th-century architecture and historical preservation.
The hall is particularly renowned for housing the United Kingdom's finest collection of priest hides, also commonly referred to as priest holes. These seven concealed spaces represent a fascinating aspect of Tudor history, ingeniously built into fireplaces, attics, and staircases throughout the property.
Historical Significance and Architectural Features
These cramped hidden chambers were originally designed to shelter individuals from Tudor-era priest-hunters during a period of religious persecution. Several of these remarkable hiding places are attributed to the celebrated craftsman Nicholas Owen, who has since been recognised as the Patron Saint of Illusionists for his ingenious concealment work.
Phil Downing, Harvington Hall's Manager, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming season: "We can't wait to open Harvington Hall in 2026, offering visitors lots to discover and experience Elizabethan history in new and engaging ways - plus some events never seen before at the Hall."
Visitor Experience and Seasonal Programming
The historic venue will offer both guided and self-guided tours, allowing visitors to explore the property at their preferred pace. Additionally, the hall has announced an exciting events programme that will run throughout the year, providing fresh experiences for returning visitors and first-time guests alike.
Like many historic properties, Harvington Hall typically closes during the winter months following its autumn season, then reopens annually for public visits. This year's February reopening coincides conveniently with the Half Term holiday period, making it an ideal destination for families and history enthusiasts.
Practical Information for Visitors
Harvington Hall, located in Harvington near Kidderminster, will operate with the following schedule: from Saturday, February 14th, the hall will be open Wednesday through Sunday. From November 7th to December 20th, opening days will shift to Saturday and Sunday only. During school holidays, the venue will welcome visitors daily from 10:30am until 4:00pm.
The reopening of this significant historical site represents an important cultural opportunity for residents and visitors to the West Midlands region, offering a tangible connection to England's rich Elizabethan heritage through its architecture, stories, and carefully preserved historical features.
