Married At First Sight Australia star David Momoh has revealed the secret reason behind his wife Alissa Fay's sudden personality change towards the end of the experiment. The couple, who initially seemed perfect together, faced increasing tensions as the series progressed.
The Beginning of Their Relationship
David and Alissa started their TV marriage on a high note after an action-packed honeymoon in snowy Mt Buller, Victoria. Their instant connection impressed the experts, and they sailed through the early weeks without any arguments or issues.
The Turning Point
However, cracks began to appear after a disastrous Homestay in Adelaide. The former power couple clashed multiple times, and David now believes that Alissa's behaviour took a dramatic turn weeks before filming ended. He describes her as a 'demanding diva' whose personality did a complete 180.
The Role of Bullying
David claims that the real reason for Alissa's 'personality transplant' was her initial drama with the other brides. Early in series 13, Alissa was the target of a texting scandal where fellow brides Bec, Gia, and Brook sent vile messages about her in a group chat. The cruel texts caused her to break down and 'dim her light'.
But when she recovered and reconciled with her 'bullies', David noticed a dramatic change. He told TV Week: 'Alissa said herself that with the bullying stuff, she was a shell of herself in the experiment. Then things got better, and she became friends with Bec and the bullies, and they were hanging out together. She came out to a different side of herself, and then things just changed.'
Alissa's Newfound Confidence
After Alissa put the bullying behind her and received apologies from Bec and Gia, she found her voice. David explained to Pedestrian.TV: 'All I'll say is when the bullying died down, I feel like she was probably more able to look at our relationship and express herself.'
This fresh confidence, however, led to what David perceived as her constantly speaking over people and bulldozing conversations. He admitted: 'I was like, 'That's Alissa. She wants to take the forefront of talking.' I'm a guy. I see myself as intimidating. I'm not gonna have a word battle with a woman. I don't want to intimidate her, so I'll let her do all the talking.'
David's Retreat and Regret
David eventually retreated from the relationship, despite proposing to Alissa at the final dinner party. The rocky couple made it to Final Vows, but their last moments on camera were unexpected. He now believes they were a terrible match from the start, admitting to WHO: 'In hindsight, knowing how much I cared for her, I overlooked so much. From 'get down on a knee' to things I found out on the honeymoon from the challenge box that never aired. I went above and beyond to show how much I cared. It makes no sense to me how she sort of flipped the script. I was meant to be a subordinate and do things based on how she felt. If she felt it was right, it was right. If I felt it was wrong, we can't have a conversation about it because she's right. You know, that didn't change.'
