Married At First Sight Australia star Rachel Gilmore has finally revealed the truth behind her split from Steven Danyluk, just weeks after their emotional Final Vows. The couple, who left the experiment hand-in-hand as boyfriend and girlfriend, saw their romance unravel shortly after filming ended.
A Promising Start
Rachel and Steven were hailed as this year's cutest couple, with a slow-burn romance that focused on building a genuine connection. At Final Vows, Rachel expressed her deep bond with Steven but admitted concerns about whether he would leave his Sydney life and business to join her in Melbourne. Despite her worries, she declared, "I want this. I want you, Steven." Steven responded with heartfelt vows, saying, "I am falling for you. Rachel, I choose you and I'm diving in head first, fearless." He officially asked her to be his girlfriend, and she happily agreed.
The Sudden Downfall
However, in an interview with New Day, Rachel revealed that Steven ended their relationship just before the reunion taping. She noticed red flags when Steven began making excuses not to visit her in Melbourne. "I was willing to put in the effort, but ultimately it happened exactly the way I was concerned it was going to happen," she confessed. "Steven went back to life in Sydney. He was busy with work, and I became a burden."
Rachel shockingly shared that Steven said "some outrageous things" and constantly changed plans. "There was always something that would come up, another priority, something more important than me and our relationship," she added. When Steven finally visited Melbourne, he told her he didn't believe he was the man she needed and suggested she find someone else.
Lies and Deception
After the breakup, Rachel went on a girls' trip to Thailand with fellow bride Alissa Fay, where she learned Steven had misled her multiple times during the experiment. She claimed Steven would say he was going to the gym but would instead be getting coffee with groom Danny Hewitt. "If you’re lying to me about your whereabouts, what else are you lying to me about?" she questioned.
Reflecting on the relationship, Rachel realized she was more invested than Steven. She feels relieved she didn't relocate to Sydney for him, stating, "It was Steven’s life, and I had to adapt to it. He wasn’t ready for a relationship."
