Rossendale Dancers to Shine in Swan Lake at Manchester's Palace Theatre
Two talented ballerinas from Haslingden High School are among four Rossendale-trained dancers who have secured spots to perform at Manchester's prestigious Palace Theatre. Olivia Haworth and Grace Taylor, both aged 12, are eagerly awaiting the announcement of their specific roles in the English Youth Ballet's upcoming production of Swan Lake.
Olivia's Journey and Dedication
Olivia Haworth brings prior experience to the stage, having performed in Cinderella at the same venue in 2023. She began dancing at the age of three, initially as a hobby, but her passion quickly grew. "I have been dancing since I was three, and when I started, it was just a hobby, but then I wanted to do more and more," she shared.
Beyond the art itself, Olivia values the social aspects of ballet, noting it as an excellent way to meet new people and forge lasting friendships. Her commitment is evident in her rigorous training schedule, which includes practice six days a week and attendance at the Royal Ballet Associates class every Saturday.
A former pupil of Helmshore Primary, Olivia aspires to become a Principal Ballerina with the Royal Ballet in London. She expressed excitement about the upcoming show, saying, "I am looking forward to meeting everyone who is in the show and making new friends."
Competitive Auditions and Local Success
The audition process for the English Youth Ballet's Swan Lake was highly competitive, with approximately 70 dancers vying for positions in the performances scheduled for June 5 and 6. This local success extends beyond Haslingden High School, as two additional students from Dansworks Academy have also earned coveted roles.
Grace Beckett, aged 15, has been accepted into the senior dance section, while 12-year-old Aubrey Watson will join the younger group. This collective achievement highlights the thriving dance talent within the Rossendale area, including communities such as Bacup, Rawtenstall, and Haslingden.
The production promises to showcase the dedication and skill of these young performers, offering them a valuable opportunity to gain experience on a major stage. As they prepare for their roles, the dancers continue to inspire their peers and contribute to the vibrant cultural scene in the region.
