The legendary Mk1 Ford Escort RS has made a triumphant return to British roads more than five decades after its original production, now carrying a staggering price tag of £295,000. A limited run of just 150 RS models, which stands for Rallye Sport, is being meticulously constructed by Coventry-based manufacturer Boreham Motorworks. This project is officially licensed by the Ford Motor Company, adding to its prestige.
New Vehicle, Not a Restoration
Boreham Motorworks emphasizes that this is not a conventional restoration or restomod. Instead, the Ford Escort Mk1 RS is described as a "continumod," engineered and built entirely as a new vehicle from scratch. Prospective buyers can choose between left-hand and right-hand drive configurations, catering to a global audience.
Powertrain and Performance
Two powertrain options are available, with the more potent variant featuring a naturally aspirated 2.1-litre engine capable of reaching 10,000 rpm. This ensures that the car delivers both authenticity and exhilarating performance.
Design Philosophy
Wayne Burgess, design director at Boreham Motorworks, explained the approach: "The challenge was never about redesigning the Escort RS – it was about understanding what made it so special in the first place. We wanted the car to feel authentic not just visually, but emotionally and dynamically as well."
Pricing and Availability
Prices for the Ford Escort Mk1 RS start from £295,000, reflecting its exclusivity and the craftsmanship involved in its production.
