Strictly Come Dancing Professional Karen Hauer Announces Departure After 14 Years

In a significant announcement made on Saturday, March 21, BBC Strictly Come Dancing star Karen Hauer revealed she is quitting the popular television show after an impressive 14-year tenure. The Venezuela-born dancer, who has become a beloved fixture on the program, stated that it is "the right time to close this chapter and take on new projects in other areas I’m passionate about."

Emotional Farewell and Tribute to Co-Stars

Hauer shared the news via a heartfelt video posted on Instagram, where she expressed deep gratitude for her time on Strictly. She addressed former co-hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, who stepped down last year, humorously suggesting, "maybe now we can finally be ladies who lunch in the Autumn." Reflecting on her journey, Hauer said, "Strictly completely changed my life, not only as a performer and a teacher but as a human being."

She highlighted the privilege of meeting incredible people and brilliant celebrity partners who have become close friends. Her Strictly career began in 2012 when she was paired with Westlife's Nicky Byrne, and she has since danced with notable figures such as ex-The Only Way Is Essex star Mark Wright, broadcaster Jeremy Vine, and Made In Chelsea's Jamie Laing.

Nod to Late Legends and Memorable Moments

In her announcement, Hauer paid tribute to the late Sir Bruce Forsyth and Len Goodman, recalling joining the show 14 years ago and learning from such legends. She became emotional as she reflected on her achievements, stating, "Who would’ve thought that a young girl from the Bronx would end up becoming the longest serving female professional dancer on a British TV institution."

Hauer also thanked her fans, noting they have "witnessed all of my different hairstyles," and expressed appreciation for the Strictly crew, including the welfare team who "take such good care of us." She added with a smile, "I’ll even miss standing front of the judges, can you believe that? Smiling politely while sometimes secretly disagreeing – it’s been an honour to share the ballroom with them."

Her departure marks the end of an era for Strictly Come Dancing, as fans and colleagues bid farewell to one of its most enduring and respected professional dancers.
