Sutton Coldfield venues open for England v Mexico World Cup

Multiple venues in Sutton Coldfield will open during the early hours of Monday, July 6, to show the Mexico v England World Cup Round of 16 match, which kicks off at 1am at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

England topped their group with seven points after two wins and a draw, but nearly exited in the Round of 32 against DR Congo. Harry Kane scored twice in the 75th minute and later to secure a 2-1 win, setting up the clash with Mexico.

Match background and significance

The Azteca Stadium, known as Mexico City Stadium for the 2026 World Cup, has hosted two previous finals and holds bitter memories for England fans. Diego Maradona's Hand of God goal and his subsequent wonder goal led to Argentina's 2-1 win in the 1986 quarter-final. England will seek to avenge that defeat and progress to the quarter-finals.
