A former doctor from Birmingham has pleaded not guilty to 45 sexual offences alleged to have been committed against 38 women and girls, with a trial scheduled to begin in October 2027.
Details of the Charges
Nathaniel Spencer, 39, from Hockley, Birmingham, appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday, June 29, where he denied all charges. The allegations include 15 counts of sexual assault, 17 counts of assault by penetration, nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, three counts of assaulting a child under 13 by penetration, and one count of attempted assault by penetration. The youngest alleged victims are aged six and seven years old.
The clerk of the court took nearly 15 minutes to read out all charges to Spencer.
Investigation and Background
Staffordshire Police described the investigation as complex, with alleged offences taking place between 2017 and 2021. Spencer is accused of assaulting patients at the Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley. He was a resident doctor with The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust at the time.
Spencer made his first court appearance at North Staffordshire Justice Centre in January. At his second appearance, Judge Graeme Smith renewed his bail and scheduled a further preparatory hearing at the same court on February 8, 2026.
Trial Date and Legal Process
The trial is set to take place at Loughborough Courthouse in October 2027. Spencer is due to stand trial on all 45 charges. The case continues to progress through the legal system, with the next hearing in February next year.
