A mobile application designed to support families across Stockport has celebrated a significant achievement, surpassing 1,000 downloads since its launch in the summer of 2025.
The One Stockport Family Hubs app was created to provide easy, fingertip access to a wealth of expert advice and local information, directly supporting parents-to-be, parents, and carers.
A Central Hub for Family Support
The app is a digital extension of the broader One Stockport Family Hubs network. This support is also available in person from dedicated Family Hubs sites and trained staff located in local libraries, Life Leisure Hubs, and Stockport Homes properties.
Features within the app are tailored to each stage of a child's development. It includes dedicated sections to support young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), ensuring inclusive help for all families.
This initiative is a core part of Stockport’s Live Well strategy, which aims to build stronger communities and help residents lead happier, healthier lives.
Making a Real Difference for Parents
The app's growing popularity is reflected in positive feedback from local families. One parent of a Year 10 child shared their experience, stating, “I used the app to find out what was available for my daughter as she was experiencing poor sleep, and I have used the app for suggestions on what to do. It’s been so helpful.”
Its reputation as a trusted resource is growing among professionals. Teachers and health workers are now actively recommending the app to the families they support.
A local teacher confirmed this, saying, “We have promoted the app at our year 7 transition night and had lots of parents sign up for the information around teenage issues.”
Council and NHS Backing
Cllr Wendy Meikle, Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Families at Stockport Council, commented on the success. She said, “We know that families thrive when services work together and that’s exactly how Family Hubs help, by bringing trusted advice and support into one place.”
She described the app as a “simple, inclusive tool that’s fast becoming essential for families in Stockport.”
The app is a key part of an integrated support system. Nic Firth, Chief Nurse for Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, highlighted how the hubs bring together early help from the council, the NHS, and wider partners, including the voluntary and community sector.
This collaborative support covers all ages from pregnancy up to 19, or 25 for young adults with SEND, and addresses broader family life issues such as the cost of living, work and skills, and parental mental health.
Cllr Meikle added that by making early help more accessible, the initiative makes it easier for communities to support themselves and their families, which is central to the borough's Live Well ambition.
