Ofsted Praises Birmingham Schools with New 'Strong Standard' Ratings
Ofsted Hands 'Strong' Ratings to Birmingham Schools

Ofsted has praised a number of schools across the West Midlands following recent inspections, awarding them new 'strong standard' ratings under a revised grading system. Headteachers learned their outcomes as the education watchdog published a series of fresh reports, with schools receiving marks that indicate strong performance in one or several areas.

The 'strong standard' rating is one step below the highest possible grade of 'exceptional' under the new framework. Schools are now assessed across multiple areas—such as behaviour, attendance, teaching, and learning—rather than receiving a single overall rating like 'outstanding' or 'inadequate' as in the past. This change aims to provide parents with a more detailed picture of school performance, identifying specific strengths and weaknesses.

Schools Receiving 'Strong Standard' Ratings

Among the latest schools to receive positive grades is Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School in Kingstanding, which achieved 'strong standard' ratings in five areas. Northfield Manor Primary Academy in Weoley Castle was rated 'strong standard' in all seven areas assessed. Other schools include Olive Hill Primary Academy in Halesowen and Blackheath Primary in Rowley Regis, each earning two 'strong standard' ratings. Wednesbury Oak Academy also received two, while Tipton Green Juniors in Tipton achieved one. Walsall Academy in Bloxwich secured three, and St Jude's Church of England Primary in Wolverhampton earned four.
