Dudley School Late Start for England World Cup Game

Red Hall Primary School in Dudley is allowing pupils to start school late on Monday, July 6, so they can watch England's World Cup match against Mexico, which kicks off at 1am UK time.

Children arriving on or before 10:30am will not receive a late mark, the school announced on social media.

School's Flexible Opening Time

In a statement, a spokesperson for Red Hall Primary School said: "Dear all, we know that many of you will want to join in supporting our England football team in the next stage of the World Cup. As we know that the match is scheduled in the early hours of Monday morning. We will have a flexible opening time up until 10:30am where you won't receive a late mark."

Community Reaction

One parent responded: "What a great school." The move has been praised by the local community for accommodating families who want to support the national team.

Government Extends Pub Hours

Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed that pubs in England and Wales can stay open until 5am for the match, using legislative powers to extend licensing hours. The home secretary has the authority to extend hours on occasions of "exceptional international, national or local significance."

This change eliminates the need for individual premises to apply for extended hours, providing a boost to the hospitality sector during the World Cup.
