The first image of Charlie Heaton as Charles Shelby in the BBC drama Peaky Blinders has been released. The Stranger Things star is seen in character for the upcoming series, which is set in Birmingham during the 1950s.
New Series Details
The next installment of the award-winning show will follow Tommy Shelby's family as they navigate the aftermath of the Second World War and the reconstruction of Birmingham. The series has been commissioned for two runs, each consisting of six hour-long episodes.
Heaton, 32, portrays Charles Shelby, a war veteran who spent much of his time behind enemy lines. Upon returning, he has severed all ties with the Shelby gang and their hedonistic lifestyle. He has not seen his half-brother Duke, Tommy's eldest son played by Jamie Bell (All Of Us Strangers), for years.
Continuation of the Story
The new series picks up a decade after the events of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, a feature-length film released earlier this year. In that film, Cillian Murphy reprised his role as Tommy Shelby, and Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) appeared as Duke.
New cast members include Lashana Lynch (The Day Of The Jackal) and Jessica Brown Findlay (Silo). The series will debut in the UK on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, and globally on Netflix.
Background
The original Peaky Blinders series, which premiered on the BBC in 2013, became a worldwide phenomenon. It starred Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, Paul Anderson as his brother Arthur, and Helen McCrory as their aunt Polly Gray. The show won the Bafta award for best drama series in 2018.
