Three teenage boys were injured, one seriously, when a tree fell on them in the playground of King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys in Kings Heath, Birmingham. The incident occurred shortly after 10am on Wednesday, July 1, at the end of morning break.
Emergency Response and Injuries
West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched three ambulances, two paramedic officers, a critical care car, and a trauma doctor along with a critical care paramedic to the scene. The most seriously injured boy received advanced trauma care at the scene before being transported under blue lights to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, with medics continuing treatment en route. The other two boys sustained potentially serious injuries and were also taken to the same hospital for further assessment.
School and Trust Statement
A spokesman for King Edward VI Academy Trust confirmed that a small number of students were directly involved. The school area was quickly secured, and specialist crews safely removed the tree. Families of the affected pupils were contacted promptly, and additional pastoral support was provided to students who witnessed the incident. The school remained open on Wednesday and operated as normal on Thursday, July 2.
Investigation Underway
The school is conducting a full and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The trust expressed gratitude to the emergency services for their swift response and requested respect for the privacy of the pupils, their families, and staff.
