Walsall School Named Among Best in Midlands by Ofsted

A Black Country secondary school has been recognised as one of the top schools in the Midlands following a recent Ofsted inspection. St Francis of Assisi Catholic College in Aldridge achieved impressive ratings across all assessed areas.

Strong Performance Across Key Areas

The education watchdog awarded the school 'strong standard' ratings in five out of six main categories. This rating is just one step below the highest possible rating of 'exceptional', a rare and challenging achievement.

According to Ofsted, 'strong standard' ratings across multiple areas indicate that the school is performing well. The new inspection framework has replaced previous one-word overall ratings like 'outstanding' or 'inadequate' with detailed assessments across various domains, providing parents with a clearer picture of school performance.

Ofsted Report Highlights

The Ofsted report praised the school's performance, stating: "Pupils, including those who may face barriers to their learning, achieve very well. Increasingly, this is reflected in the outcomes pupils achieve in national examinations."

The report also highlighted the achievement of disadvantaged pupils: "The achievement of disadvantaged pupils is particularly impressive. Over time, the attainment of these pupils has been above national averages and is rapidly moving closer to that of their non-disadvantaged peers nationally."

Regarding attendance, inspectors noted: "There is an impressive culture of high attendance. Leaders analyse patterns and trends in attendance carefully and identify concerns at an early stage. This enables them to respond to pupils' circumstances and provide tailored support to overcome any barriers. As a result, pupils attend regularly, and persistent absence has decreased sharply in recent years."

The report also commended the school's behaviour culture: "Leaders have also established a culture of positive behaviour. Staff and pupils share a common understanding of expectations, rooted in mutual respect."

St Francis of Assisi Catholic College continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing high-quality education and fostering a supportive environment for all students.
