Edge Hill University recently welcomed back five of its most accomplished law graduates for a special event designed to illuminate the path from student life to professional practice.
Alumni Share Diverse Legal Journeys
The annual Law Alumni Panel, organised by the university's School of Law and Criminal Justice, proved to be an invaluable evening for attendees ranging from first-year undergraduates to those on the cusp of graduation. The event featured a dynamic panel of legal specialists who have carved out successful careers in diverse fields.
This year's speakers provided a powerful snapshot of the varied routes a law degree can offer. The panel included Chloe Moran, a Public Law and Human Rights Solicitor at Irwin Mitchell who graduated in 2022; Faye Morris, a Paralegal at Weightmans and Chair of the Merseyside Junior Lawyers Division (Class of 2021); and Anthony Hutchinson, an Employment Law and Civil Litigation Specialist at Liverpool City Council (Class of 2020).
Also sharing their insights were Amanda Shepherd, a Criminal Defence Lawyer, Military Law Specialist, and Managing Director at E&L Legal (Class of 2017), and Gareth Farrelly, a former professional footballer who now works in Commercial Litigation and Sports Law (Class of 2012).
Practical Advice and Personal Insights
The graduates offered more than just career summaries; they provided candid, practical advice on navigating the transition from university to the working world. Discussions covered the realities of the legal sector and the specific skills, resilience, and mindset required to succeed.
Chloe Moran spoke in detail about her work in the Court of Protection, handling complex Public Law and Human Rights cases. She emphasised the critical importance of confidence, compassion, and robust communication skills in effective legal practice.
Faye Morris highlighted how her proactive involvement in extracurricular activities, competitions, and university career support during her degree was instrumental in building the skills she uses daily. She now defends litigation for insurer and private clients at Weightmans. Morris also discussed her leadership role within the Merseyside Junior Lawyers Division and her passion for supporting the next generation of legal professionals.
A Strong and Supportive Community
The evening underscored the enduring strength and connectivity of the Edge Hill University community. It demonstrated a clear culture where successful alumni remain committed to giving back, offering guidance and opening doors for those following in their footsteps.
Jen Giblin praised the alumni for their ongoing engagement, stating: “Our annual alumni panel event is an opportunity for our current students to discover where their law degree can take them. We are very grateful to our wonderful alumni community for supporting the next generation of Edge Hill Law students.”
The event successfully blended inspiration with practical professional development and networking. With graduates making significant impacts across private law firms, public services, and niche legal sectors, the panel vividly illustrated the breadth of ambition and achievement fostered by Edge Hill's law programme.
