Jadon Sancho Set to Leave Aston Villa and Rejoin Borussia Dortmund
Jadon Sancho Set to Leave Aston Villa for Dortmund

Jadon Sancho's future is set to become a major talking point in the coming weeks as the summer transfer window approaches. The Aston Villa winger, currently on loan from Manchester United, has reportedly expressed his desire to return to Borussia Dortmund when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Sancho's Loan Spell at Aston Villa

Sancho joined Villa on a season-long loan from Manchester United last summer, but his time at Villa Park has been marked by inconsistency. Under manager Unai Emery, the 26-year-old has shown glimpses of his quality but has struggled to maintain a high level of performance. In 33 appearances across all competitions, he has scored just one goal, a strike against Fenerbahce in the Champions League.

His first Premier League start for Villa came in December, a 4-1 defeat at Arsenal, after an impressive substitute appearance against Chelsea where he and Ollie Watkins turned the game around at Stamford Bridge. Watkins scored twice in a 2-1 victory, with Sancho playing a key role in the comeback.

Sancho's game time increased after John McGinn suffered an injury against Everton in January. However, a shoulder problem picked up during the March international break in a friendly against Elche in Spain disrupted his momentum.

Recent Performance and Future Plans

In Villa's most recent match against Sunderland, Sancho had a difficult afternoon, losing possession twice and contributing to an unlikely comeback by the Black Cats. Tammy Abraham eventually rescued all three points for Villa with a 93rd-minute winner.

With his contract at Manchester United set to expire, Sancho will become a free agent this summer. According to Sky Sport, he is open to rejoining Borussia Dortmund, where he previously played from 2017 to 2021 and again on loan during the second half of the 2023/2024 season. A return to Dortmund would mark his third spell at the club.

What's Next for Sancho?

As the summer transfer window approaches, Sancho's future will come under sharper focus. His willingness to return to Dortmund suggests that a move back to the Bundesliga could be on the cards. For now, Villa fans will be hoping he can rediscover his best form before the season ends.
