The Midlands is set to experience a 26°C mini heatwave this month, according to forecasters who have pinpointed the exact date of the hot spell. Weather maps from WX Charts indicate that temperatures will rise significantly on Saturday, June 13, with the region expected to reach 26°C.
Temperature Breakdown Across the Midlands
Birmingham, Solihull, and Staffordshire are forecast to hit 26°C, while the Black Country may see slightly lower temperatures of 25°C. The highest temperatures in the UK on that day are predicted in London, where the mercury could soar to 30°C.
Understanding Heatwave Criteria
The Met Office defines a heatwave as a period where temperatures meet or exceed a specific threshold for three consecutive days. For Staffordshire and Shropshire, the threshold is 26°C, while the West Midlands requires 27°C. Parts of the South East have a threshold of 28°C. Although the current forecast shows only one day of high temperatures, it could signal the arrival of a mini heatwave later in June.
In its long-range forecast for June 6 to 15, the Met Office noted: "Changeable early in this period with Atlantic frontal systems moving across the UK. These will bring showers or longer spells of rain at times, with wettest conditions in the northwest, driest in the southeast. Strong winds may affect parts of the UK at times, especially the northwest. Later in the period, higher pressure and more settled conditions may begin to become more prevalent, especially in the south. Temperatures are likely to be near normal overall."
Residents in the Midlands are advised to enjoy the warm weather while it lasts, as the long-range outlook suggests a return to more typical conditions thereafter.
