Royal Mail has issued a warning that several West Midlands postcodes will experience delivery delays due to extreme heat conditions. The postal service announced that areas including Birmingham (B), Coventry (CV), Dudley (DY), and others will be affected as temperatures are forecast to reach up to 30°C.
Affected Postcodes and Impact
The following postcode areas are impacted: B, CV, DY, and parts of Worcestershire (WR), Warwickshire (CV), and Shropshire (SY). Royal Mail stated that the extreme heat could cause delays in sorting and delivery operations. Customers are advised to expect longer wait times for their mail and parcels.
Reason for Delays
According to Royal Mail, the delays are due to health and safety measures for staff working in high temperatures. The company said it is taking precautions to protect employees, including providing additional breaks and hydration. A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We are monitoring the situation closely and will do everything we can to minimize disruption.”
Advice for Customers
Residents in affected areas are urged to check their mailboxes regularly and track parcels online. Royal Mail also recommends using alternative delivery options where possible. The delays are expected to last as long as the heatwave continues, with temperatures predicted to remain high for several days.
