UK Snow Alert: Six Counties Braced for Heaviest Snowfall This Month
Six English counties face worst snow as cold snap hits

Britain is preparing for a dramatic shift in conditions, with new weather charts indicating substantial snowfall could reach the south coast of England before the month is out. Forecast models now show wintry conditions extending as far south as Brighton and Bristol later in January.

Snow Maps Pinpoint Worst-Hit Regions

According to the latest data from WX Charts, temperatures are set to plummet, with accumulations of up to 30mm of snow predicted for areas including Plymouth, Bristol, and Brighton. The first flurries are currently modelled to begin around midday on Monday, January 26.

The projections suggest the north west of England will also be at risk, with Manchester in line for snowfall before the cold weather pushes southeastwards on Tuesday, January 27. Major cities on the south coast such as Southampton and Portsmouth are also expected to be affected, with temperatures potentially dropping to 0°C.

Counties Facing the Greatest Disruption

Based on the weather maps, the six counties anticipated to be worst-hit by the impending freeze are:

  • Hampshire
  • Sussex
  • Greater Manchester
  • Lancashire
  • Somerset
  • Cheshire

The charts use distinct white zones to indicate areas of likely snowfall.

Long-Range Forecast Points to Colder Spell

The Met Office's long-range forecast supports the potential for a colder period towards the end of January, increasing the likelihood of snow. A spokesperson stated: "This aspect is still somewhat uncertain but the potential transition to colder weather also increases the chance of snow across parts of the country."

Looking at the immediate outlook, Netweather's Jo Farrow commented on the current unstable conditions, noting: "We have flimsy low pressure over the UK with bands of showers... Some of these showers could produce a sharp downpour, even hail today." She added that milder air moving in from the southwest over the weekend may temporarily reduce the risk of ice in southern regions.

Residents across the identified counties are advised to monitor the latest forecasts and prepare for potential travel disruption as the month draws to a close.
