Dorking to Host Great Big Green Week with Community Celebrations
Dorking Hosts Great Big Green Week Celebrations

Dorking is gearing up for an exciting week of community celebrations aimed at showcasing local environmental initiatives. The town will come alive with poetry picnics, repair cafés, film screenings, and swap events as part of Great Big Green Week. This year's national theme is 'Together for Good', and over one million people are expected to participate across the country.

The event highlights how collective local action can protect cherished places and strengthen communities. Circular Dorking has organized a vibrant programme in collaboration with local groups, organizations, and volunteers. Residents, visitors, and businesses are all invited to join the festivities from June 6, 2026, to June 14, 2026.

Wendy Saunders from Circular Dorking said: “We look forward to showcasing the creativity, enthusiasm and community spirit that continue to make Dorking a hub for sustainability and local action.”

The town’s celebrations focus on how small steps can create a big impact. Festivities kick off early with a Picnics and Poems event in the Quaker Meeting House Garden on May 31, from 1pm to 4pm. The main event will be Dorking’s Big Swap, Switch, Share gathering in St Martin’s Walk on Saturday, June 6, from 10am to 3pm. Visitors to the main hub can enjoy stalls, activities, and family-friendly experiences celebrating sustainable living.

The full line-up also includes a Repair Café, a Day of Dance, an Eco Hub Bees and Nature Event, and a clothes swap. Music fans can look forward to the first Band Stand Event of the season.

Wendy concluded: “We’re excited to see Dorking come together once again for Great Big Green Week. Every action - whether it’s repairing something, sharing skills, supporting local groups or simply starting conversations - helps create positive change. Great Big Green Week is about celebrating what communities can achieve together and inspiring as many people as possible to get involved.”

The full calendar of activities is available on the Circular Dorking website. Those interested in getting involved can also contact the organizers via email or follow their social media pages.
