Heartbreaking Messages Left at Tree Planted in Memory of Leo Ross in Trittiford Park

A maple tree has been planted in Trittiford Park as a poignant memorial for Leo Ross, a young boy tragically killed while walking home from school. The tree, named Autumn Glory, was planted by volunteers from the Friends of Trittiford Park on Wednesday, February 11, to commemorate what would have been Leo's 14th birthday.

Community Comes Together for Emotional Tribute

The planting ceremony was attended by Leo's foster family, teachers from Christ Church Academy, friends, and Rev. Lydia, who offered a prayer for the beautiful little boy. Children left painted stones at the base of the tree, adorned with heartfelt messages such as Miss You, Leo, and No More Knives, creating a touching display of remembrance and hope.

The Friends of Trittiford Park expressed their sentiments, stating: Today, volunteers marked Leo’s 14th birthday by planting a maple tree, Autumn Glory. We hope this brings some comfort to family, friends and the community watching it grow big and beautiful for many years to come. This tree shall mark a place to go to remember Leo for the beautiful little boy he was. He can now and will always and forever remain in all our hearts, especially when we visit our beautiful park every day.

Background of the Tragic Incident

Leo Ross was just 12 years old when he was murdered by Kian Moulton on January 21, 2025, as he walked home through the park in Yardley Wood. Moulton, now 15, was sentenced to life in prison at Birmingham Crown Court, with a minimum term of 13 years to be served. The killing was described as random, unprovoked, and senseless, part of a three-day rampage in the park where Moulton also attacked three elderly women.

Moulton, who lived nearby, had terrorized the nature reserve, cycling around and targeting vulnerable individuals. He will remain in custody until he is at least 27 years old, as the community continues to heal from this devastating loss.
