The United Kingdom is preparing for a significant cold snap following the departure of Storm Claudia, with forecasters predicting a dramatic drop in temperature that will see parts of the country experience a frigid -7C.

Widespread Snowfall Expected

According to the latest data from WXCharts, weather maps for the UK are dominated by white and blue, indicating the extensive reach of the incoming winter conditions. The mercury is set to begin its sharp descent from November 19, with the North East of England expected to bear the brunt of the freeze.

The most intense snowfall is predicted for Newcastle and Sunderland, which could see accumulation rates of up to 3mm of snow per hour. Further north, the Scottish Highlands are forecast to be completely blanketed in white.

Snow Reaches the South Coast

The cold front will not be confined to the north. The snow is projected to spread as far south as Devon, which is forecast to receive around 1mm of snow per hour. Counties along the southern coast, including East and West Sussex, are also set for a dusting, with an estimated 0.5mm of snowfall.
