Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has shared an uplifting health update from her hospital bed as she recovers from a second mastectomy procedure.
Recovery Progress and Gratitude
The 35-year-old professional dancer posted a positive message to her followers, revealing she's feeling 'so much better' after undergoing the significant surgery. In her social media update, Amy gave a thumbs up to the camera while expressing her heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming support from fans.
She wrote: "Feeling so much better this morning. Again can't THANK YOU all enough for the well wishes, love and beautiful messages I've received." The Welsh dancer added that the support had "not gone unnoticed and so appreciated" before signing off with her characteristic "Welsh love to you all, always."
Surgery Details and Strictly Come Dancing Absence
Amy had previously announced she would be stepping back from her role on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing to undergo this surgery. Although she was eliminated early in this year's competition with partner Tom Skinner, she had continued to participate in group dances until revealing she needed further treatment.
The dancer explained in detail before her operation that this procedure wasn't to treat a new cancer diagnosis, but was recommended following a recent appointment with her medical team. She emphasised that her doctors were confident she could expect a straightforward recovery if everything went well.
Looking Forward to 2026
Despite the challenging circumstances, Amy maintained an incredibly positive outlook. She stated before her surgery: "I'm going into this really fit, really strong, really positive. I'm going to do all I can to get back with my Strictly family as soon as I can and I'm going to make sure I dance my way through 2026."
The star confirmed that her husband, family and close friends have been providing excellent care during her recovery, even maintaining their tradition of watching 'The Traitors' together. Her cancer journey began in May 2023 when she was first diagnosed with stage three breast cancer, leading to her initial mastectomy operation. Several months later, she received the devastating news that she had developed a different form of cancer in another part of her body.
Amy remains determined to rejoin the Strictly Come Dancing family once she has fully healed from her latest procedure.
