Family Raises £2,600 for Chemo Unit in Memory of Mother

A local family has raised more than £2,600 for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Philip Hospital to honour the life of a devoted mother and wife.

The donation was made in memory of Wendy Phillips, who lived near Llanelli and sadly passed away from metastatic breast cancer in December 2025. Her family described her as the 'glue that held them together,' and her loss has left a significant hole in the lives of her loved ones. Following her passing, Richard, Carys, and Carwyn shared a fundraising link on Facebook which was quickly inundated with support. The family chose to support the chemotherapy unit as a thank you for the care Wendy received during the two years and four months following her diagnosis.

Carys Phillips, Wendy’s daughter, said: "It was a no-brainer to choose the chemotherapy unit because they were always so good to Mami. The staff were kind and caring during a difficult time in her life, and they were exactly the same with us during treatment and after losing Mami."

"It’s nice to be able to give back to the unit and hopefully try to help other patients and families in similar circumstances. It’s nice to know the donations will be going towards items such as the wellness boxes because Mami had one of the very first ones and she absolutely loved it. It was a nice treat."

FOND MEMORIES: Wendy was described as the 'glue' that held her family together. She had been under the care of the chemo unit for two years, and I know the staff on the ward became like new friends and another family to her, and I could never have asked for better people to care for and provide treatment to her.

"It’s been mind-blowing, I never expected to raise this much, and I am beyond grateful to everyone. It’s comforting to know how loved Mami was and how much everyone appreciates the work of the staff on the chemo unit. Thank you to everyone who has donated in Mami’s memory."

Katie Hancock, fundraising officer, added: "We want to say a huge thank you to Richard, Carys and Carwyn for setting up a fundraiser in Wendy’s memory. We’re so grateful for your support."

"The generous charitable donations we receive do not replace NHS funding. Instead, they support additional items and activities outside core NHS expenditure. These small extras make a big difference, and we are so grateful for every donation we receive."
