Singer Jessie J has issued a powerful response to online trolls who have cruelly claimed she fabricated her breast cancer diagnosis. The 37-year-old artist, whose real name is Jessica Ellen Cornish, was diagnosed with early breast cancer earlier this year and underwent a mastectomy in June.
Facing the Critics Head-On
In a defiant post on her Instagram Stories, the Price Tag singer directly addressed those who have questioned her health battle. After revealing her favourite coat had been stolen from her car, she turned her attention to the malicious comments. "Also if you have or do comment on the internet that I lied/lie about having cancer," she wrote, adding a bold challenge: "Come say it to my face on the street. I might be one boob down. But I can still scrap."
A Complex Recovery Journey
Jessie J's health journey has been challenging and ongoing. Following her initial surgery to remove one of her breasts, she has spent months in recovery. The singer recently had to cancel shows on her tour as she prepared for what she initially described as a second surgery that "has to be done by the end of the year." However, this procedure has since been postponed after medical consultations revealed greater complexity than first anticipated.
In an emotional Instagram video update, the star explained the situation: "So a week before my surgery I went to my surgeon and we discussed my surgery and it felt a little more complex than he was anticipating and referred me to a different surgeon." The new medical opinion suggested the operation could wait, leaving Jessie J frustrated but accepting that the situation was "out of my control."
Life-Changing Perspective
Speaking at the Music Industry Trust Awards, the singer reflected on how her cancer diagnosis has profoundly altered her outlook on life. "This year has changed my whole world," she shared in an emotional speech. "My perspective, what battles I'm going to pick, when death comes knocking at your door, and you kind of have to answer and f****** kick it away, it just changes everything."
Despite the physical and emotional challenges of her health battle, including confronting hurtful online accusations, Jessie J continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience while navigating her recovery in the public eye.
