Karen Hauer's dog Betty recovers from cancer surgery

Strictly Come Dancing professional Karen Hauer has shared an emotional health update about her beloved dog Betty, who recently underwent surgery after a cancer diagnosis.

Betty's Brave Recovery Journey

The dancer took to Instagram to inform her followers that Betty is now back home and recuperating following the operation. The cherished companion was diagnosed with cancer last month after Karen's partner, former rugby player Simon Davidson, discovered two small lumps on her belly and under her armpit during a routine check.

In a heartfelt video update, Karen revealed that despite the challenges, Betty managed to sleep reasonably well even with fireworks disturbing the night. "She slept okay last night, even though there were fireworks, and she's not a fan of fireworks," Karen explained while gently stroking Betty's ears in the footage.

Sleepless Nights and Family Support

The Strictly professional admitted that both she and Simon had barely slept in the hours leading up to her needing to leave for work ahead of the live Strictly performance with her celebrity partner Harry Aikines-Aryeetey. "Simon and I, really we didn't get much sleep," she shared in the clip posted on November 8th.

Despite the family's exhaustion, Karen expressed relief that Betty was comfortable in her blue surgical recovery suit and making good progress. She noted that their other dogs were giving Betty space while still showing their affection, saying "all the other doggies are giving her some love" while respecting her need to recover peacefully.

Ongoing Monitoring and Important Warning

In a subsequent update, Karen showed Betty embarking on a gentle stroll with Simon, still wearing her post-surgery attire. The family now awaits further test results to determine the next steps in Betty's treatment plan.

When initially breaking the news of Betty's diagnosis last month, Karen issued a crucial warning to other pet owners: "Please check your fur babies for any lumps or bumps... early detection can make all the difference." The dancer emphasized that their veterinarians had been "incredible" throughout the process and that the cancer had been detected as grade one, offering hope for successful treatment.

Karen continues to document Betty's recovery journey, reminding followers that they're taking things "one day at a time" as their brave girl heals from her surgery.
