Solihull Care Home Hosts Intergenerational Fitness Day with Local Nursery

Residents at a Solihull care home recently participated in an energetic intergenerational exercise class, teaming up with local nursery children to promote health and wellbeing. Care UK's Blossomfield Grange, located on Worcester Way, welcomed youngsters from Mad Hatters Day Nursery for a special Get Active Day designed to foster physical activity across generations.

Fun-Filled Exercise and Healthy Refreshments

The event commenced with a seated "exercise-to-music" session, where participants used pompoms and moved to classic party tracks, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere. This was followed by a calming stretch and relaxation period to help everyone unwind. To ensure all attendees stayed refreshed, the care home's chef prepared a selection of nutritious foods, including kale, apple, and mint juice shots, which were enjoyed by both residents and children.

Jan Quigley, a 71-year-old resident, shared her enthusiasm: "The exercise class was so much fun. I really enjoyed the music and the pompoms, and so did the nursery children." Her comments highlight the positive impact of such activities on mood and social interaction.

Promoting Health and Community Engagement

Jo Hopkins, Customer Relations Manager at Blossomfield Grange, emphasized the importance of the event: "Our Get Active Day was an absolute hit, and residents loved training alongside the children from Mad Hatters Day Nursery. Exercise is incredibly important for maintaining physical and mental health, especially in older people, whose mobility, balance, and strength naturally begin to decline with age. Enjoying physical exercise in a novel and exciting way can greatly increase resident involvement, leading to improved fitness levels and a more positive mood."

Hopkins added, "We'd like to say a big thank you to Mad Hatters Day Nursery for joining us; we can't wait for our next exercise class." This collaboration underscores the care home's commitment to fostering community ties and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
