North Wales Housing Honors Centenarian Resident with Grand Celebration

North Wales Housing is thrilled to commemorate the 100th birthday of Frances, a cherished resident of its Llys y Coed extra care scheme located in Llanfairfechan. The milestone was celebrated in style with nearly 100 guests attending a special birthday event held at the scheme, where Frances has resided for almost six years. She fondly described the occasion as 'wonderful', highlighting the joy and community spirit that filled the day.

A Life of Resilience and Adventure

Born in Finchley in 1926, Frances' early years were profoundly impacted by the Second World War, which led to an early end to her formal schooling. Undeterred, she pursued education through night school, earning qualifications that paved the way for a diverse career. She dedicated 15 years to managing surgical appliances at Whittington Hospital, showcasing her dedication and skill. Throughout her life, Frances embraced adventure, traveling extensively to destinations such as Trinidad and Scandinavia, enriching her experiences and perspectives.

Late-Life Love and Community Support

At the age of 77, Frances married her husband Donald, and the couple later moved to Llys y Coed in 2020. They shared their home until Donald's passing three years ago. Allan Eveleigh, Assistant Director Communities at North Wales Housing, expressed his admiration, stating: "It was a real privilege to spend time with Frances ahead of her birthday. Listening to her stories - from her travels abroad to her marriage at 77 - was inspiring. Frances also spoke about the tremendous support she has received from the Llys y Coed team - especially after losing her husband."

Warm and Welcoming Living Environment

Frances speaks highly of her life at Llys y Coed, describing it as warm and welcoming. She remarked: "I'm very satisfied here, it's wonderfully laid out. I can't fault it!" This positive feedback underscores the scheme's commitment to providing a supportive and comfortable environment for its residents.
