The family of a former care home resident have raised £2,500 by climbing Mount Snowdon to express their gratitude to the staff who cared for their loved one. Eileen Greenwood lived at MHA Maple Leaf House in the local community for nearly six years, from April 2020 until her passing in December 2025. Her granddaughters organised the sponsored climb to thank the team for their extraordinary support.
An emotional tribute to exceptional care
The challenge saw family members trek up the highest mountain in Wales, reaching the summit to raise funds for the care home. Their efforts collected £2,500, which will be used to support future activities and day trips for the current residents. MHA Maple Leaf House provides nursing dementia care for up to 48 individuals, offering a safe and nurturing environment.
After completing the climb, the family visited the home to present a cheque to the staff. The gesture was a heartfelt way to acknowledge the dedication shown during Mrs Greenwood's residency and her end-of-life care.
Family's words of gratitude
Eileen's family shared their deep appreciation: “Our mum Eileen was a resident at Maple Leaf House for almost 6 years and while in their care mum was looked after incredibly well. The staff were amazing with her and treated mum with compassion, love and kindness.” They went on to describe the final days: “Towards the end of mum’s illness when she was receiving end of life care my sister and I moved into mums’ room for the last 5 days of her life. The staff were amazing how they looked after us and mum, we can’t thank them enough.”
The family added: “To show our families appreciation mum's granddaughters decided to do a sponsored walk up Mount Snowdon to raise money to give the care home a gift to say thank you for all they had done for mum and ourselves. They raised £2500.00 and they are so thankful to all the generosity of the people who donated as without them they would not have been able to give such a fantastic donation to such an amazing place.”
Concluding their statement, they said: “Thank you again to all the staff at MHA Maple Leaf House for everything they did for mum and thank you for helping us through a very tough time in our lives, you truly became part of our family.”
