RNID Launches Monthly Hearing Loss Drop-In Sessions in Carmarthen

The charity RNID, which supports individuals who are deaf, have hearing loss, or experience tinnitus, has introduced local drop-in services to assist people with hearing loss in Carmarthen. These sessions are designed to provide essential support and resources to the community.

Session Details and Locations

Sessions are held at Wesley Methodist Church on the third Friday of each month from 11 am to 1 pm. The upcoming dates include March 20, April 17, May 15, and June 19. This initiative is part of a broader project funded by the National Lottery, ensuring accessibility for all participants.

Trained RNID volunteers, many of whom have personal experience with hearing loss, run these sessions. They offer a range of services, including free hearing aid maintenance such as battery replacements and tubing updates. Additionally, attendees can receive hearing checks, information, and support on managing life with hearing loss.

Expanded Services Across Hywel Dda

Beyond Carmarthen, RNID is conducting similar monthly drop-in sessions in other locations within the Hywel Dda area, including Borth, Llandeilo, Tregaron, and Llandysul. These community venues aim to make support more accessible to residents throughout the region.

Lynzie Fitzpatrick, RNID coordinator for Hywel Dda, expressed enthusiasm for the project: "We are really pleased to run this much-needed service across Carmarthen and throughout the Hywel Dda area to support local people with hearing loss. We welcome anyone to drop in from the community to meet our friendly volunteers, receive free hearing checks, hearing aid maintenance, and information."

Volunteer Opportunities

RNID is actively seeking local volunteers to contribute two hours per month to support these sessions. Volunteers will receive comprehensive training and reimbursement for expenses. This opportunity allows individuals to connect with like-minded people and make a positive impact in their local area.
