A leading Wirral charity is launching a brand new series of free, relaxed events designed specifically for families with autistic children and teenagers. Autism Together, based in Bromborough, will kick off its twice-monthly 'Family Adventures' programme in 2026.
What Are the Family Adventures?
The initiative will see the specialist autism charity partner with a host of popular local attractions to create autism-friendly activities that are completely free of charge. The sessions are aimed at children or teens with autism, or those who are on the pathway to receiving a diagnosis, and their parents or carers.
The core aim is to help families enjoy quality time together in a supportive and understanding environment. Each event will be facilitated by a member of the Autism Together team, who will be on hand to offer advice and support where needed.
Colette Griffiths, head of business development for Autism Together, said the charity is excited to launch the new series. "This is an opportunity for families to enjoy time together, while feeling supported and relaxed," she explained. "It's also a great chance to meet other families, make new friends and new connections within our charity."
Local Venues and How to Book
A variety of Wirral venues have already signed up to host the adventures. The confirmed locations include:
- Activity For All
- Jumpin' Josephs
- Bulwark Games
- Inflation Wirral
- Kraken Comics
- Monkey House
The locations will change each month, with one event tailored for younger children and another for older children and teens. Although spaces are limited, the charity aims to reach as many families as possible throughout the year.
Booking is essential. Families can register their interest for the free sessions via the charity's Trybooking page. If events are oversubscribed, places will be allocated via a lucky dip system. Autism Together has pledged to prioritise families who miss out in future selections to ensure the process is fair.
Broader Support for Families
The Family Adventures will be supported by the charity's advice and support officer, Amy Jones. Alongside these outings, Amy will lead other events for families in the coming year.
"I look forward to meeting families and supporting them in a variety of ways," said Amy. "Alongside our new Family Adventures scheme, I'll be leading advice and support coffee mornings for parents and carers of autistic adults and children, and Rainbow groups for children under five years."
The weekly Coffee Mornings will rotate between four cafes across the region: Benricks Café in Birkenhead, Bridge Community Farm Café in Ellesmere Port, Quirky Café in Hoylake, and Bromborough Pool Café.
