A tragic incident in central Stockholm has left multiple people dead after a bus collided with a crowd in the Ostermalm district.

Chaotic Scene in Ostermalm

Emergency services were called to the scene at 3.24pm local time on Friday, November 14 following reports of a serious collision. Locals described hearing a 'loud bang' followed by 'sudden screams' as the horror unfolded.

One witness told Aftonbladet: "I was lying in bed in my room when I heard a loud band and several people screaming. I then ran over to the window and saw a bus had crashed and several people on the ground."

Eyewitness Accounts of the Tragedy

Witness Michelle Mac Key described the immediate aftermath, having just alighted from another bus when the crash occurred. "I walked across the road and saw the double-decker bus that had rammed into a bus stop. I witnessed total chaos," she said.

Ms Mac Key added that she felt shaken after the incident and expected to have nightmares, noting that police were seen questioning witnesses about what had transpired.

Emergency Response and Investigation

Police confirmed that the bus was not in service and no passengers were on board at the time of the incident. The driver has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated manslaughter.

Michelle Marcher for the Stockholm region confirmed: "At the moment we have five injured, two of whom are seriously wounded, that have been transported to the hospital."

Police press officer Nadya Norton stated that officers weren't commenting on specific details about victims at this time, confirming only that there were both injuries and fatalities. Authorities have confirmed that the incident is not being investigated as a terror attack.
