A 33-year-old man died early this morning after his Ford Focus left Tyburn Road, struck a tree and overturned near the Star City entertainment complex. Two passengers in the vehicle were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Details of the incident
West Midlands Ambulance Service responded to the single-vehicle collision at around 2:15am on July 27. The car had exited the roadway before hitting a tree and rolling onto its roof. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the driver but he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
Two passengers, whose ages have not been released, were rushed to local hospitals for treatment of serious injuries. Their current condition remains unknown.
Investigation and appeal
West Midlands Police have launched an investigation into the tragedy. The force is appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
Detectives are particularly interested in footage that may show the vehicle's movements prior to the collision. Tyburn Road is a major route through Birmingham, and road closures were in place for several hours to allow investigators to examine the scene.
