Around 40 firefighters from eight fire engines were dispatched to Woodgate Valley Country Park in Birmingham on July 27 after a large grass fire broke out at approximately 3:25pm. The West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) received the alert and promptly sent crews from Haden Cross, Handsworth, Tipton, Oldbury, Ladywood, Bloxwich, Dudley and West Bromwich to the scene on Highfield Lane.
Photographs from the scene showed a large plume of smoke rising over the park, with a substantial area of grassland charred. Four fire engines were seen parked on a nearby residential street, with hoses stretched across the tarmac.
Firefighters Respond Swiftly
WMFS confirmed that the fire was a grass fire and that firefighters worked quickly to bring it under control. The flames have since been extinguished, and no injuries or casualties have been reported. A spokesperson for WMFS said: 'It is not yet clear what caused the blaze, however the flames have now been extinguished.' The cause remains under investigation.
No Injuries Reported
Woodgate Valley Country Park, located in the Bartley Green area of Birmingham, is a popular green space for walking and wildlife. The fire charred a large part of the grassland, but the park remains open, though visitors are advised to avoid the affected area until cleanup is complete.
The incident follows another fire earlier in the day on Witton Road, Aston, where a two-storey building was engulfed in flames, leading to road closures. Fire crews from multiple stations attended that blaze as well.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant during dry weather and to report any signs of fire immediately. WMFS reminded residents to avoid discarding cigarettes or glass that could start grass fires.
