Staffordshire Police have confirmed that a 75-year-old man has died following a house fire in Shelton, with four other individuals requiring medical treatment for smoke inhalation. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 8, at a property on Ridgway Road.
Emergency response and evacuation
Firefighters from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the blaze at approximately 12:50pm. Upon arrival, crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and evacuate the building, ensuring the safety of all occupants. Tragically, the elderly man was found deceased at the scene.
One woman in her 60s was taken to hospital for further treatment, while three other individuals were assessed by paramedics at the scene. All four were treated for smoke inhalation, according to a statement from the force.
Ongoing investigation
Staffordshire Police have stated that they are collaborating with fire investigators to determine the cause of the fire. A scene remains in place on Ridgway Road while inquiries continue.
In a statement, a force spokesperson said: "A man has sadly died and four others suffered smoke inhalation following a fire in a property in Shelton. We were alerted to a fire by colleagues at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service in a property on Ridgway Road at around 12.50pm on August 8. Fire crews extinguished the fire quickly and the building was evacuated."
Support for the family
The next of kin of the deceased have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers. The police have also appealed for any witnesses or individuals with information about the fire to come forward.
