West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed the details: "We were called to reports of fire on College Lane in Tamworth at 11.25am and sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance to the scene."
Victim's Condition and Hospital Transfer
Paramedics treated the man for serious injuries at the scene. After initial care, he was conveyed by land ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital under emergency driving conditions. A spokesperson from St Editha's said: "We had an incident today involving an accidental fire in the Church Hall. One of our members of staff was injured and has been taken to hospital. We are pleased to say they are in a stable condition." The worker's injuries were serious but non-life-threatening, according to officials.
Aftermath and Community Impact
As a result of the fire, the scheduled Community Picnic, planned for 2pm that day, was cancelled. The church expressed gratitude to emergency services, with the spokesperson adding: "We would like to thank the emergency services for their swift response, professionalism and outstanding support. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank everyone for their understanding." Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, but it is believed to be accidental. The church hall remains closed pending safety assessments.
