Teams from Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust have been recognised at a prestigious national awards ceremony, the Palliative and End of Life Care Awards, held in London on Thursday, July 2. The awards celebrate excellence and dedication in delivering high-quality support for people approaching the end of life.
Countywide Macmillan Team Wins Palliative Care Team Award
The Countywide Macmillan Team won the Palliative Care Team Award for demonstrating an innovative approach to delivering compassionate care. Key achievements included developing a special phone line and fostering strong collaboration through palliative care huddles—regular team meetings to coordinate support.
South East Lincolnshire Palliative Huddles Highly Commended
In addition, the South East Lincolnshire Palliative Huddles were highly commended in the Integrated Care Systems Award category. This recognition highlighted effective partnership working that has led to improved patient outcomes and has since been successfully expanded across the county. The initiative brings together colleagues from Macmillan Cancer Support, St Barnabas Hospice, and specialist nursing teams.
Individual Nominations for Nursing Excellence
Lincolnshire team members were also named as finalists in multiple individual categories. Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialists Josie Vincent and Emma Orrey both received individual nominations for an excellence in nursing award. Josie was shortlisted for improving out-of-hours access to equipment, while Emma was recognised for her leadership in implementing the care huddle model.
Celebration and Pride
Rosie Royce, palliative single point of access lead at the trust, said: “We are absolutely delighted to see our teams and colleagues recognised on a national stage. These awards are a wonderful reflection of the passion, commitment and expertise demonstrated every day by everyone involved in delivering palliative and end-of-life care across Lincolnshire.” She continued: “Winning the Palliative Care Team Award and receiving a highly commended recognition for our palliative huddles is a fantastic achievement. Most importantly, it highlights the real difference these services make to patients and families when they need support the most.”
Royce added: “To top it all off, we also won the award for best selfie of the night!”
Abi Alexander, Macmillan team lead at the trust, added: “This recognition is a tremendous achievement for our teams and a proud moment for everyone involved. It celebrates the dedication, compassion and innovation that underpin palliative and end-of-life care across Lincolnshire.” She commented: “We are incredibly proud of our award winners, finalists and partners who work so closely together to provide outstanding care. Their commitment ensures more people can receive personalised, coordinated support and experience the very best quality of care at the end of life.”
