Priory Hospital Birmingham Celebrates 'Good' CQC Rating

The Priory Hospital Birmingham has been awarded an overall 'Good' rating following a comprehensive inspection by the national healthcare regulator, the Care Quality Commission. The 65-bed private hospital, which operates as part of the Circle Health Group, was commended across multiple key areas of its service delivery.

Compassionate Care and Effective Leadership Recognised

In their detailed report published in January, CQC inspectors highlighted that the hospital provides safe, effective, and well-led services. A particular focus was placed on the compassionate approach of the staff team. The report explicitly stated that "Staff treated patients with kindness, empathy and compassion", ensuring that privacy and dignity were consistently respected. Furthermore, staff were praised for supporting patients to make informed decisions about their care.

The inspection noted a strong culture of collaboration among staff, who demonstrated great pride in delivering high-quality care. The way in which staff involved patients and their families throughout the treatment process was also singled out for praise. The report emphasised a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to openness within the hospital's operational culture.

Embracing a New Philosophy

This positive outcome follows the introduction of the Circle Health Group's operational philosophy in July 2021. Hospital staff expressed satisfaction that their efforts to adopt and embed this new working culture have been formally recognised at the highest regulatory level. The inspectors observed that the team's proactive engagement with the regulator was a significant factor in securing the favourable rating.

Silvie Adams, Executive Director of The Priory Hospital, commented on the achievement: "I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication that has gone into achieving our new 'Good' rating. The report shows the agility, passion and drive we have to deliver an exceptional standard of care to our patients."

Adams added that the success reflects the contributions of every individual at the hospital and aligns with their ambition to become the first choice for patients seeking high-quality treatment in Birmingham, as well as a preferred employer in the local area.

Regulatory Context and Group Performance

It is important to note that the CQC regulates private hospitals to the same stringent standards as NHS facilities, assessing performance across five key domains: safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness, and leadership. The Priory Hospital's 'Good' rating represents an independent validation of its services.

The report also reflects positively on the wider Circle Health Group, which operates a network of 54 hospitals across the country. The group has been identified as particularly strong in its drive to elevate standards consistently across its entire portfolio.
