Dianne Buswell has opened up about her emotional and physical recovery following the birth of her son, Bowden Mark Richard Sugg, in March 2026. The professional dancer and her long-term partner, YouTuber Joe Sugg, welcomed their first child together on 16 March 2026.
Painful Recovery After C-Section
Speaking on the Oxydise podcast, Buswell described the immediate aftermath of her c-section as unbearable. 'I just burst into tears. The pain of having to sit up and trying to manoeuvre myself out of bed was just unbearable,' she said. The dancer, known for her appearances on Strictly Come Dancing, admitted that her primary concern was whether she would be able to return to dance. 'My number one thing is how am I gonna recover and am I going to be able to dance again,' she shared.
Healing Therapies: Oxygen and Red Light
Buswell credited oxygen therapy and red light therapy as key factors in her recovery. 'I would definitely say that implementing these things has been a real game changer for me,' she told the podcast. The treatments helped her manage the pain and speed up healing after the difficult labour.
The Meaning Behind Bowden's Name
Upon announcing the birth, Buswell and Sugg revealed that their son's first name, Bowden, is derived from Bowden Hill, the village in Wiltshire where Joe Sugg and his sister, influencer Zoe Sugg, grew up. His middle names carry personal significance: Mark honours Dianne's father, while Richard pays tribute to Joe's late grandfather. The couple have since shared glimpses of their baby boy on social media, often celebrating his milestones.
Return to Strictly Come Dancing
Buswell has confirmed her return to Strictly Come Dancing as a professional dancer this autumn, marking the end of her maternity leave. She and Joe Sugg first met while competing together on the show in 2018, and they have been together ever since.
