Construction Company Owner Ionut Damian Died by Suicide, Inquest Concludes

An inquest in writing at Birmingham Coroner's Court has concluded that Ionut Damian, a 35-year-old construction company owner, died by suicide. The tragic incident occurred after he was found unresponsive at his home in Streetly, Sutton Coldfield, on September 30, 2025.

Details of the Tragic Incident

Ionut Damian, originally from Romania, was discovered at his residence following personal difficulties. He had previously sent WhatsApp messages indicating his intentions and left a handwritten note for his family, as detailed in the coroner's report.

After being found, he was resuscitated and transported by ambulance to Good Hope Hospital. There, he began to experience seizures and was diagnosed with a hypoxic brain injury. Despite receiving medical treatment, his condition deteriorated, leading to a decision to focus on keeping him comfortable.

Transfer to Hospice and Subsequent Death

On October 23, 2025, Ionut was transferred to Birmingham Hospice, where he passed away the following day, October 24. The inquest in writing, conducted by Area Coroner Adam Hodson for Birmingham and Solihull, confirmed the cause of death as suicide, noting that the facts were non-contentious.

Coroner Adam Hodson stated that the investigation was carried out in writing due to the straightforward nature of the case, with no disputes over the circumstances.
