MAFS Australia Star Bec Zacharia Reveals ADHD Diagnosis After Filming
Married at First Sight Australia participant Bec Zacharia has publicly disclosed that she received an ADHD diagnosis following her appearance on the controversial reality television series. This revelation comes as she seeks to explain her highly contentious behaviour during the show's notorious second Dinner Party episode, which aired to widespread viewer shock and discussion.
The Infamous Dinner Party Incident
Fans of the program will vividly recall the dramatic evening where Bec unleashed a torrent of criticism against nearly every individual seated at the table. Her targets included fellow participants Juliette Fava and Joel Moses, whose wedding vows she harshly critiqued. She additionally labelled Gia Fleur and Scott McCristal as "fake" and made a pointed remark about Julia Vogl, suggesting she would have preferred a female match over her assigned partner, Grayson McIvor.
This incident had significant real-world consequences for Zacharia, contributing to the loss of her employment. While she previously attributed her actions to deflection, she now identifies her newly diagnosed ADHD as a primary factor.
Bec's Explanation and Podcast Comments
Speaking candidly on the MAFS Funny podcast, Bec elaborated on the situation. "For me, my gripe wasn't with Alissa," she stated. "I don’t know why those girls wanted to blame me. But I never told them to be mean to her. I never said that." She clarified that her frustration stemmed from hearing that Alissa and David were allegedly speaking about her, prompting her reactive response.
"And I’m newly diagnosed with ADHD. I’m reactive," Bec explained. "So, even the text messages, you haven’t seen them all. But I’m not going to bring them out because that just hurts Alissa. I’ve spoken to her about it." These referenced text messages, which Gia threatened to disclose during the Dinner Party, contained harsh language from Bec directed at Alissa.
The Impact of Diagnosis and Personal Reflection
Bec described the ADHD diagnosis as "transformative" for her personal understanding and growth. However, she also acknowledged deeper issues surfaced by the show's intense environment. "I got tested for ADHD. That’s been transformative for me. But, I also have past traumas that I thought had healed," she shared. "Being on the show made me realise I have a lot more work to do. I have been actively doing that."
This personal health update adds a new layer to the public narrative surrounding her time on Married at First Sight Australia, shifting the conversation from mere reality television drama to include themes of mental health awareness and personal accountability.
