Mental Health Charity Andymansclub Makes Special Visit to Accrington Stanley Stadium
National men's mental health charity Andymansclub recently made a significant visit to Accrington Stanley's Wham Stadium during the club's home fixture against Salford City. The event formed part of the charity's ongoing efforts to raise awareness about men's mental health issues and promote open, honest conversations regarding the challenges men face in their daily lives.
Charity Representatives Engage with Football Supporters
Members of the Andymansclub team were present throughout the evening, including Head of Partnerships Lucas Whitehead and Area Lead for Greater Manchester and Lancashire, Chris Kelly. The representatives delivered a special talk in the 1968 Lounge to supporters enjoying matchday hospitality. During this session, they introduced Andymansclub and emphasized the charity's crucial role in male suicide prevention, encouraging men to open up about their mental health and share their life experiences.
Background and Growth of Andymansclub
Founded in 2016, Andymansclub was created in direct response to the stark reality that suicide remains the leading cause of death for men under 54 in the United Kingdom. What began with just nine people meeting in Halifax has since evolved into a nationwide movement, with groups now operating in more than 330 locations across the country. The charity's free-to-attend sessions occur every Monday at 7pm, excluding Bank Holidays, with current weekly attendance exceeding 30 men in both Blackburn and Burnley, and plans underway to establish a group in Accrington.
Community Engagement and Support Distribution
Beyond the hospitality talk, Andymansclub team members were also present in Coley's throughout the evening, engaging directly with supporters and distributing information about how men can access vital mental health support services. This hands-on approach allowed for meaningful conversations and increased awareness about available resources.
Official Statements from Club and Charity Representatives
Accrington Stanley CEO Warren Eastham expressed his appreciation for the visit, stating: "It was great to have the Andymansclub team with us at the Wham Stadium. The work they do is incredibly important and it was fantastic to be able to share that message with our fans."
Head of Partnerships at Andymansclub Lucas Whitehead added: "What a fantastic night at Accrington Stanley. What a goal from Alex Henderson, beating Salford 1-0. It has been a fantastic welcome, we have had some really positive conversations already and stay tuned, there's plenty more to come."
Football Club's Commitment to Mental Health Initiatives
The visit highlighted Accrington Stanley's continued dedication to supporting mental health initiatives and utilizing the influential platform of football to create positive change within the local community. By hosting such events, the club demonstrates how sports organizations can play a significant role in addressing critical social issues and fostering supportive environments for their fans and community members.
