Aimee Lyons decided to overhaul her lifestyle after watching her mother suffer a health scare, leading to a weight loss of almost 5 stone and a new career as a Slimming World consultant.
Turning Point After Mother's Health Scare
The 25-year-old from Great Barr weighed 14 stone 9 pounds when she joined Slimming World alongside her mother in November 2023. Her turning point came when her mother experienced a health scare that made them both reassess their wellbeing.
“We decided to join Slimming World together so we could support each other. That decision changed everything,” Aimee said.
Rapid Progress and Confidence Boost
Within six months of joining her local group, Aimee lost an impressive 4 stone to reach her target weight, then went on to shed a further 10 pounds. She has now lost a total of 4 stone 10 pounds and is successfully maintaining that weight loss.
“I never believed I could achieve something like this, let alone keep it off,” she said. “Slimming World has completely changed my mindset around food and my body.”
Her first week on the programme saw a loss of 4 pounds, which gave her a significant motivational boost. “That gave me such a boost. For the first time, I felt in control of my food choices,” Aimee added.
Sustainable Lifestyle Changes
Before joining, Aimee’s confidence was at an all-time low. She avoided social occasions due to discomfort in her clothes and dreaded summer. Even winter posed challenges as she struggled to find boots that fit.
By following the Slimming World Food Optimising plan, she learned to cook healthier versions of favourite meals like lasagne and spaghetti Bolognese. Convenience foods and takeaways have been replaced with simple, home-cooked meals. “I batch cook, plan ahead and keep my kitchen stocked with everyday foods like fruit and vegetables. It fits around my life, not the other way around, which is why it’s been so sustainable,” she explained.
Group Support and New Role as Consultant
A huge part of Aimee’s success was the support from her Slimming World group. “I was so nervous walking through the door for the first time, but I was immediately made to feel welcome. There’s no judgement, just encouragement, understanding and people who genuinely want you to succeed,” she said.
Her passion for helping others has led her to train as a Slimming World consultant. She is launching her own group on Wednesday, July 29 at 7pm at St Columba's Church, Banners Gate. “I know how it feels to walk through those doors feeling nervous and unsure. Now I can’t wait to welcome new members, support them every step of the way and help them realise they can achieve their goals too,” Aimee said.
Reflecting on her journey, she added: “I’m not just lighter. I’m happier, more confident and more comfortable in my own skin. This journey has taught me that weight loss isn’t just about what you lose, it’s about everything you gain along the way. Joining Slimming World has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It’s given me a way of eating, thinking and living that I know I can maintain for life.”
