Greenfield Valley Residents Invited to Shape Future of Meadow Mill Fishing Pool
Greenfield Valley Fishing Pool Future Forum

Greenfield Valley residents are being called upon to share their views on the future of a cherished local landmark at an upcoming community forum. The public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 25, to deliberate on the next phase of developments for the Meadow Mill Fishing Pool. Organizers are keen to collect innovative ideas and input from the community to guide the scenic spot's future evolution.

Transformation Project Nears Completion

This crucial meeting follows an extensive two-year renovation project at the former mill pool. The site has undergone substantial upgrades to become a dedicated, high-quality fishing facility for both enthusiasts and families. Completed major works include the construction of a new access path and custom fishing pegs, along with the removal of large quantities of disruptive silt and weed. Following these significant environmental enhancements, the pool was successfully stocked with sizable fish in 2025, setting the stage for its exciting next chapter.

Recent Stocking and Youth Focus

More recently, over 600 smaller fish have been introduced to the pool with assistance from expert staff at Natural Resources Wales. This additional stocking responds to feedback from experienced local anglers and reflects the Trust's commitment to creating opportunities for young people in the Holywell and Greenfield area. The fishing pool has been designed with young anglers in mind. Community feedback highlighted the need for more activities for younger people, while experienced anglers advised that smaller fish would provide a better introduction to the sport for beginners and younger participants.

Challenges and Next Steps

Doug Don, Greenfield Valley ranger, stated: "There is still a lot to do to make this a good fishing facility. Our main problems at the moment are weed growth now that the weather has warmed up and also silt coming back in and filling the area alongside the fishing pegs which we dredged clear just two years ago. We have had a lot of help from volunteers over the past two years giving us their advice and also working on site clearing the weed that was cut last year and planting irises on the pond margins, which are now flowering beautifully. We now want to talk about the next steps."

Community Invitation

The Trust is encouraging all interested residents, anglers, volunteers, and community groups to attend the meeting and contribute their ideas. The public meeting will take place at the Victorian School, Greenfield Valley, at 7pm on Thursday, June 25.
