West Bromwich Albion are still awaiting written reasoning from the English Football League (EFL) a week after being hit with a controversial two-point deduction for breaching profit and sustainability (P&S) rules.
Club Stance and Response
The Baggies secured Championship safety thanks to a 10-match unbeaten run under James Morrison, who was this week appointed permanent manager. The two-point deduction, however, did not affect their final league position.
Following a two-day hearing last Friday, the EFL found Albion guilty of exceeding P&S limits. The club disagreed with the outcome, questioning both the timing and the lack of published written reasons. Executive director Mark Miles told the Express & Star: "Not a lot has changed since last Friday - we don't agree with the judgement that came out. We believe we have fully complied with the rules."
Appeal and Future Steps
Albion have reserved their right to appeal once they receive the written confirmation. Miles added: "We still await written confirmation, we will go through it and once we've got that we can assess where it is." He praised Morrison and the staff for ensuring the punishment had "no material difference on our season."
Season Finale and New Era
Albion close their season at bottom side Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, with the Hillsborough club set to confirm a takeover. The appointment of Morrison on a two-year deal signals a new era under owners Bilkul, who have made four head coach appointments in just over two years. Miles reflected on the stressful season, saying: "I think it's probably been a stressful season all the way through!"
