West Bromwich Albion are edging closer to appointing James Morrison as their new permanent head coach following a remarkable turnaround in form. The former Baggies midfielder took interim charge for the third time this season after Eric Ramsay's disappointing nine-game spell.
Morrison's first game ended in defeat, prompting him to publicly challenge some players. That sparked a revival, leading to a ten-game unbeaten run that secured Championship safety. A win over Watford and a draw against Ipswich Town, after a points deduction, ensured survival with one game remaining.
As the unbeaten streak continued, calls for Morrison to land the job permanently grew. Former teammates Shane Long and Gareth Barry backed him, while an Express & Star poll showed 96% of fans want him as boss. With the season finale at Sheffield Wednesday approaching, the club appears ready to name Morrison as Ramsay's permanent successor.
It remains unclear if a deal will be finalized before the weekend, but Morrison is highly likely to become the permanent manager. When asked about his future, Morrison said: "All I'm concentrating on is getting to the end of the season. Realistically, there's going to be a lot of conversation. I'll give my thoughts and I'm sure the club will have their opinions. Let's just get to the end of the season and have a discussion."
